'TCBK' Wool Wads for reduced loads.
If you shoot reduced loads you will know they rattle around the cartridge case. This is especially noticeable in large cartridge cases. The danger of small charges in large cases has been recognised for many years and the mystery "detonation effect" responsible for blowing many pistols and rifle apart has been linked to this. By using 'TCBK' Wool Wads on top of a reduced load of powder the charge remains packed against the flash hole guaranteeing that the powder will not lie on the bottom of the case once chambered allowing the primer flash to burst over top of it causing inconsistent pressures or WORSE. 'TCBK' Wool Wads burn cleanly within the barrel of the firearm and leave no harmful residue in barrels or suppressor units.
I have used such fillers for 15 years and have had nothing but VERY positive results. Why waste your time cutting squares of dacron. Waste mine and use 'TCBK' Wool Wads. You'll sleep better doing so. Good in cases from .223 to .510cal.
Cartridges are .32-20, .223 Remington and .303 British with jacketed and cast bullets.
Disclaimer: Much has been written over the years regarding the use of ‘fillers’ in centerfire cartridge reloading. There are both views for and against the practice of reduced loads of faster than normal burning powders topped with a ‘filler’. The intension of such ’fillers’ is reduce powder surface area exposed to the ignition of the primer promoting a progressive burn and lessoning the alleged risk of subsequent “flash over” or “chamber detonations”. At this time no explanation of how chamber detonations occur. Further to this the conditions which allow this have yet to be replicated in tests. It would appear that the phenomenon is linked to reduced charges or very fast burning powders EG: Alliant Red Dot. To a lesser degree, chamber “ringing” has been reported in conjunction with the use of fillers and reduced powder charges. This too remains unexplained and to a large degree speculative. As with all aspects of handloading, as we have no control over the use of this product we may not be held liable for any misuse or subsequent damage or harm. Use at your own risk.
One a personal note I have been using fillers the likes of ‘TCBK Wool Wads’ in reduced loads for the last 15 years. To this date I have yet to experience anything other than favourable results. The fastest burning powder I use in any loads is DuPont 800X and for the most part I burn AR2205/H4227. I load ammunition for both myself an my wife and have no hesitation in doing so.
